im convinced that good things come in three’s. as well as the not-so-good, the slightly concerning. beginning with a positive experience with socialized health care after an emergency room visit (unripe bananas are, in fact, toxic), followed by my first confirmed stalker experience!, rounded out by these finds at sant antoni sunday market in the glorious sunshine, making it all tranquilo tranquilo tranquilo..

after an eight day stay in istanbul, turkiya for our semana santa holiday

i can try to describe as a sensory experience; muslim call to prayer five times a day heard throughout the whole city. aya sofya and the blue mosque in sultanhamet square. the inherent distance between people closed, at least slightly, through curiosity. eurasia hostel and our cast of characters from north america, eastern europe, the UK, australia, western africa. (why do you travel?) topkapi palace, gold, emerald. the grand bazaar, spice market, food carts and simit, fresh fish, baklava. the ferry to the asian side of the city, quieter roads and long walks. trekking to eyup neighborhood, up the funicular for the view from pierro loti cafe, above a cemetary with raised white marble and cliffsides. the istanbul modern and politics through documentation, through expressionism. ferry to princes’ islands and new friends, walking through half deserted neighborhoods and military complexes. back to barna refreshed and with turkish disco under my arm (toma ya) and my legs sore from urban trekking and chance findings.

below the jump, video snapshots of eurasia. xx
